ERC features PEACE among its Consolidator Grants 2025 highlights
The European Research Council selected 349 mid-career researchers for its 2025 Consolidator Grants, funded through the EU’s Horizon Europe programme. PEACE was featured among the example projects, in a piece describing how children exposed to humanitarian crises face a heightened risk of emotional distress, how current mental health and psychosocial support interventions only partially work — and can sometimes make things worse — and how science still lacks the tools to predict which child will respond to which intervention.
The ERC feature outlines PEACE’s approach: starting from an individual-participant-data network meta-analysis, building predictive models, transferring the dataset into a machine learning algorithm, and testing it in a randomized controlled trial built around individual patient characteristics — an approach not previously used in mental health research. The grant is worth €1.8 million over 5 years, hosted at the University of Verona.
